Job Description

The Electronic Warfare Division currently has an immediate opening for a Senior Level Thermo-Structural Engineer.

Job Description

This is a technical engineering position performing computational structural dynamics modeling and simulation for hypersonic air vehicles, to include thermal response, structural stress and deformation results. Analysis will be performed at multiple fidelities, including conceptual design, detailed design and analysis on a physics basis. The candidate will perform computational structural dynamics, visualization, and workflow programming, using both local and DoD Distributed Supercomputing Resource Centers for massive deployment and monitoring of solutions and harvesting of results. These solutions will be interfaced with computational fluid dynamics models to advance research in fluid-thermal-structural interactions (FTSI) of high speed missiles.

External Referral Eligible

Complexity: Employ ingenuity and creativity to develop new technical solutions by performing computational structural dynamics models, and integrating advanced computational structural dynamic models with computational fluid dynamics models to develop new approaches to FTSI research and achieve customer performance objectives. Dependability, initiative, and ability to solve problems both as part of a team and as an individual performer is a must.

Communication: Must communicate with Leidos airframe research and guidance and control personnel, and interact daily with customer program leadership and team members and end users. Must develop a clear understanding of customer goals and objectives and shape work activities to satisfy them. Must present both verbal and written status on a regular basis, and prepare manuscripts for publication at technical conferences and for professional journals.

Knowledge: Experience with computational structural dynamic models such as Abaqus, NASTRAN, and Sandia Sierra or equivalent and engineering level structural models is required. Proficiency with Microsoft Office; Matlab or Python, or equivalent is required. Ability to utilize DoD DSRC capabilities is required.

Education: Requires a Bachelor's degree and 8+ years of experience or a Master’s or Ph.D. degree in Aerospace, Mechanical or similar discipline and gt; 6 years’ experience.

Clearance: Must be a U.S. Citizen with ability to obtain a Secret clearance.

Desired Knowledge

Demonstrated experience with fluid-thermal-structural interaction is highly desired. Knowledge of workflow process tools such as Dakota and Galaxy Simulation Builder software is desired.
