JOB DESCRIPTION: This sub family is responsible for developing and designing electronic, electro-mechanical and mechanical equipment. Duties may include developing basic data and makes preliminary layouts, sketches, and notes necessary to present design proposals. IMPACT: Works to achieve day-to-day objectives with moderate impact on the area/ project team. Works independently on larger, moderately complex projects/assignments. May assist other technical staff with tasks and assignments. COMPLEXITY: Addresses somewhat complex technical issues/problems using internal best practice and through collaboration with colleagues. Develops solutions to technical problems that require depth of technical knowledge, but are typically limited in complexity. COMMUNICATION: Communicates with colleagues across multiple areas (project managers, other technical resources, etc.). Explains technical solutions, practices and procedures to others within the organization. LEADERSHIP amp; TALENT MANAGEMENT: KNOWLEDGE: Requires working knowledge of and ability to apply standards, principles, theories, concepts, and techniques of technical domain. TYPICAL EDUCATION amp; EXPERIENCE: Typically requires BS degree and 2 ? 4 years of prior relevant experience or Masters with less than 2 years of prior relevant experience. EFFECTIVE DATE: 01/02/2016
**This position is an alternate position. An alternate is a backup hire that is willing to deploy to Antarctica in the event the primary is unable to deploy.** **This position requires deployment to Antarctica and has a contract length of 7 months from approximately March 2017 through October 2017. Upon completion of deployment, employment will end.** Bachelor s degree or higher in a Natural or Physical Science is required. Knowledge of the operation and electronic repair is required of one or more of the following: auto-analyzers, centrifuges, fluorometers, liquid chromatographs, data-logging equipment, microscopes, pumps, motors, scintillation counters, and spectrometers. A minimum of four years working in an academic, research, or production laboratory environment with hands on equipment repair/troubleshooting experience is required. Familiarity with the standard PC operating environment and operational knowledge of Windows and MS Office Products required. General electronic troubleshooting ability required. Excellent written and verbal communication abilities required. Must be organized, able to multi-task, and work without direct supervision. Deployment to Antarctica is required for this position. The individual in the position must successfully complete the physical and dental examinations as required by the NSF for deploying to Antarctica. Failure to meet these requirements may result in withdrawal of employment offer or other employment action. Master s degree or higher in Physical or Biological Science or five years relevant career experience is preferred. Background in an academic research environment providing direct support to science projects is preferred. Experience in general computer repair including IBM-PC, Macintosh and network equipment preferred. NA
