POSITION/PROGRAM SUMMARY:The Systems for Inspections, Recalls, Compliance Enforcement (SIRCE) and Imports program supports the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Office of Regulatory Affairs’ (ORA) critical work to safeguard the foods, drugs, devices, biologics, and veterinary products that the Agency regulates. These systems continue to evolve to meet emerging business needs and to support new mandates and initiatives. It is important to analyze and implement advances in technologies that will improve efficiency and performance leading to greater user satisfaction and reducing the cost of operations and maintenance (O amp;M). Effort is underway to develop state of the art applications that can be used on various platforms and to retire some of the legacy systems with modern and efficient applications.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:Specific roles amp; responsibilities for the Software Engineer internship position include but not limited to the following: - Work with Product Owners and configuration management and team to develop software to support a product team - Communication with internal FDA product team members on schedules, and issues that affect delivery and solution of SW releases - Prepare documentation for Software including System requirements specifications, Software design documentation, and User manual as applicable to the product team - Collaborate with business analysts, and product team and leads in ensuring high level requirements are implemented correctly and meet customers’ expectations - Ability to identify solution and evaluate solution to complex system problems with help from team and team leads - Actively engage and suggest process improvements- Actively participate in identification of lessons learned as applicable to each release - Actively engage in team SCRUMs
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:- Currently pursuing a B.S. degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related discipline from an accredited college/university with a 3.0 GPA average.- Understanding of full software development life cycle using an agile methodology through related classes or other work experience - College courses and related internship experience in .Net, JAVA, and/or web development solutions - Demonstrated good understanding of software engineering concepts - Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including experience working directly with customers to discuss their requirements and objectives- Enthusiastic candidate with a positive attitude willing to learn - Demonstrated problem solving, and team building skills - Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment with some oversight required
