Candidate functions at the expert level with regard to satellite space segment and ground station design and operation. Responsible for technical planning, system hardware-software-network design, development and integration, verification and validation, and fielding. Evaluates alternatives including cost and risk, supportability and analyses for total systems. Specifically, this position is a responsible for conducting mission planning for SATCOM operations in support of the US Antarctic Program. Responsibilities include developing detailed plans and procedures associated with the establishment of satellite earth stations to utilize MILSATCOM services. The successful candidate shall hold a leading role for the development of key deliverables including:
- SATCOM earth station ConOps,
- Analysis of Alternatives (AoA) for an OCONUS and/or CONUS satellite teleport,
- Terminal facilities design through AFC,
- Preliminary / Critical Designs of integrated services wideband X-Band earth terminal.
Ongoing duties include systems requirements management; coordination with Information Assurance (IA) group for systems design, compliance and implementation; support for systems deployment planning; support for Interim Operating Capability (IOC) development and Final Operating Capability (FOC) for systems deliveries. Candidate must:
- Demonstrate direct prior involvement in development and delivery of formal Requirements, ConOps, and systems designs using Systems Engineering principles and techniques.
- Be able to obtain a US Security Clearance.
Candidates with the following qualities shall be preferred:
- Ability to deploy to Antarctica for short durations is preferred.
- Experience in Arctic or Antarctic SATCOM operations is preferred.
- Experience supporting the United States Antarctic Program is preferred.
*** Deployment to Antarctica is required (approximately 8 to 12 weeks). The individual in the position must successfully complete the physical and dental examinations as required by the NSF for deploying to Antarctica.
