Job Description

Electric Utility Engineer – Honolulu HI Utilities consistently come to Leidos for reliable power expertise, as reflected through our work with more than 30 investor-owned utilities and more than 160 municipals/cooperatives across the country as well as a growing number of private developers. Our services include engineering, planning, project management, construction management, and commissioning for electric power substations and transmission and distribution lines; protection and controls and supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) design; and smart grid design and development. We have proven experience on projects ranging from 4 kV to 500 kV.
Qualified and successful candidates will be responsible for supporting project teams in the planning and design of electric utility systems. Assignments will be performed under the direction and supervision of professional engineers and project managers. When appropriate skills and experience are developed and/or demonstrated through performance, responsibilities will include acting as the lead engineer, and may involve directing the work of other engineers and CADD/designer staff.
Employ standard engineering principles and practices in performing work• Prepare permit and construction drawings, design calculations, reports, equipment and construction specifications, and studies• Develop an understanding and comply with Leidos’ quality management program• Develop a working understanding for application of applicable industry codes and standards, including the NESC, IEEE, and NEC • Develop familiarity with and apply client design and construction standards• Perform work efficiently, learning to monitor effort in accordance with the budget, and in accordance with deadlines• Focus on needs of internal clients while gaining an understanding of external client goals and expectations• Communicate, collaborate and interact with clients and other project team members


Typically requires Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Civil Engineering from an accredited program and 2 – 4 years of prior relevant experience or Masters with less than 2 years of prior relevant experience in the design of electric transmission and distribution systems, and substations is preferred• Registration as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) is preferredCore Competencies• Strong analytical and problem solving skills • Excellent verbal and written communication, and interpersonal skills• Ability to work independently and as part of a project team• Have a high attention to detail with a passion for quality • Proficient in the use of standard computer programs, such as Word, Excel, and Project• Capability to learn and utilize industry-standard engineering software programs
