Job Description


This position will support the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Western Service Area (WSA) by providing Safety Risk Management (SRM) support for the Western Service Center (WSC), Quality Control Group (QCG). The primary duty will be facilitating SRM panels; collateral duties may include supporting requests from Air Traffic Organization (ATO) offices within the Western Service Area (WSA) to conduct or assess the requirements for SRM procedures, coordinate with adjacent services areas, perform Point of Contact (POC) duties for SRM projects, provide initial SRM assessment and guidance for assigned projects within the service area, provide coordination to establish project description and panel members, support the development of a SRM Decision Memorandum, evaluate alternatives and an assessment of risks, and provide SRM services for a wide range of National Airspace System (NAS) implementation programs and projects.

Collateral duties will include providing expertise and support by reviewing, developing and overseeing the required processes involving aircraft accidents, aircraft incidents, air traffic evaluations, audits and air traffic safety initiatives. This includes coordinating with appropriate personnel following a significant aviation event; ensuring processes follow applicable FAA orders and instructions, and compliance with FAA Mandatory Occurrence Report (MOR) entries, External Compliance Verification (ECV) and Significant Events procedures. Candidate will be part of a rotating requirement for 24 hour “call-in” duty to respond to these events.

Typical education and experience: (General level of expertise sought but not necessarily required)

Typically requires BS degree and 8 – 12 years of prior relevant experience or Masters with 6 – 10 years of prior relevant experience.

Specific Required Qualifications:

A Certified Professional Controller in either a civilian or military environment. Previous experience in an operational environment such as an En Route facility (ARTCC), Terminal Air Traffic Control Facility (TRACON), or high activity/complex Control Tower.
