Leidos has a job opening for a Mainframe Intern in Baltimore, MD.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:Design, plan, configure, install, test, document, analyze, troubleshoot and debug infrastructure, configurations, programs and products for large-scale mainframe systems on high volume transaction systems running IBM z/OS and z/VM operating systems utilizing "Best Practices" technologies and methodologies.- Assist with installation, administration and management of mainframe operating system, software and application packages- Assist with planning and help coordinate mainframe related projects- Participates in software evaluations, including installation, configuration, testing, and technical support for the customers, production services and computer operations staff- Help prepare program specifications and diagrams, and develops logic flowcharts- Work to understand business, technical, and program requirements- Assist in the creation and general system design and technical specifications for new/replacement systems, taking into consideration computer equipment capacity and limitations, operating time, and desired results- Apply analytical skills in support of the Mainframe environment- Supply time estimates related to project and product efforts- Recommend process improvements based on latest technology and standards- Perform additional duties as required
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:- Must be working toward an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline, e.g. MIS, CS or Business or recently graduated with strong academic standing; coursework around computer science, networking, and/or database systems preferred- Strong problem solving and analytical abilities- Knowledge of and experienced in IBM JCL (Job Control Language) or desire to learn- Excellent verbal and written communications and customer facing skills- Ability to work in a team environment and accept direction- Commitment to quality deliverables; attention to detail- Requires PC technical and troubleshooting skills- Must be customer service oriented and work well on a team- Ability to multi-task- Ability to explain complex technical terms and systems to others- Participated in IBM’s Master the Mainframe or taken two college level z/OS and/or z/VM, Assembler, RACF, and/or or JCL courses- Ability to learn technology quickly- Solid planning skills to keep work organized on track and able to keep counterparts and customers up to date with how projects are progressing- Interest in and understanding of the latest advances in technology
