Sonar Field Engineer to join a team working with the latest and greatest advanced technology on US Navy Surface ships. This is a challenging and rewarding career working with professionals from different entities of the ship. This is a fast paced and important mission with the Integration and Logistics Center (ILC) that supports the US Navy by reworking the out dated ships with the new updated, latest and greatest systems.
Specifically, the Sonar Field Engineer will oversee the installation and conduct testing of the AN/SQQ-89A(V) Sonar Suite. The candidate will be working with dynamic schedules and coordinating with other members of the test team and ship’s force.
This position requires great understanding of basic Sonar Principles, equipment and interfaces. Additional required characteristics include experience troubleshooting and testing connectors, cable, power and loading AN/SQQ-89A(V)15 software. Travel up to 10% to Norfolk, Hawaii or Japan.
•Review of drawings and procedures designed for AN/SQQ-89A(V)15 installations and upgrades.
•Act as liaison during industrial installation.
•Coordinate testing of newly upgrades systems.
•Resolution of any issues associated with installation and testing of sonar systems.
•Support assessments and at-sea test events as required.
•Fulfill duties as an on-site representative for the AN/SQQ-89A(V)15 system. These responsibilities will include:
•Perform direct support to expedite problem resolution and to minimize any schedule impact caused by USW system equipment problems.
•Provide installation and testing inputs to daily and weekly reports.
•Investigate outstanding assessment discrepancies.
•Provide updates to the on-line database via ALICE.
•Deliver a CD of the electronic database as requested.
•Correct visual/mechanical and electrical discrepancies discovered during Assessment testing as scheduled and directed.
•Perform configuration audits to verify installed USW system baselines on specified hulls per schedule and instructions provided.
•Perform System Interoperability Validation (SIV)/equipment grooms using Government approved procedures.
•High School diploma/GED with at least 4 years related experience.
•At least 6 years’ experience working with Basic Sonar Principles, equipment and interfaces.
•At least 4 years’ experience troubleshooting and testing connectors, cable and power.
•At least 4 years’ experience with loading AN/SQQ-89A(V)15 software.
•Ability to travel up to 10% CONUS and OCONUS.
•Must be able to lift forty (40) pounds, climb ladders and perform other shipboard activities.
•Currently possess either an active Secret clearance or inactive with the ability to reinstate without a problem.
•Proficient with MS Office products.
•Proficient writing skills, able to summarize schedules and technical issues into reports.
•Knowledge of Linux and networking desired.
