Job Description


Leidos has an opening for a Cargo Assurance Manager. The Cargo Assurance Manager will be responsible for leading the Cargo Mission Management, Cargo Integration, and Physical Integration functions for the Cargo Mission Contract.


The qualified candidate will be responsible for planning, organizing, securing, and managing, Cargo Assurance resources to ensure successful completion of Cargo Integration in support of NASA's International Space Station Program. The candidate will be responsible for leading a team of professionals that will be championing NASA's mission for performing analytical and physical integration of all US allocated critical space hardware in preparation for delivery to next level vehicle integrators for launch to orbit. A team of Cargo Mission Leads will manage the project schedules for each visiting vehicle mission and ensure NASA's manifesting objectives are tracked and met through integration and delivery of cargo data and physical products. The Cargo Assurance Manager will ensure resources are adequately assigned to meet mission milestone in support of the CMLs. Stowage Integrators serve as CAD developers that capture hardware unique packing requirements and maximize the amount of hardware delivered to orbit will protecting each hardware item and on-orbit operations. Additionally the Cargo Assurance Manager will lead the Cargo Integration team responsible for tracking on dock deliveries to ensure hardware is delivered to the cargo packing facility with ISS Requirements. This team is responsible for capturing unique hardware data and updating data products with hardware item specific information to support the development of an accurate manifest and on-orbit ISS inventory database. Physical integration will be responsible for readying hardware for launch and return in compliance with hardware specific handling and environmental requirements so that one of a kind critical space hardware is protecting in support of the overall ISS mission. The successful candidate will ensure all three aspects: Cargo Management, Cargo Analytical Integration, and Physical Integration are adequately staffed and managed to meet ISS and CMC objectives. The Cargo Assurance Manager will track resources to ensure each ISS flight mission (launch and return) is within contract scope, managed within cost and budget constraints, while meeting schedule milestones. The candidate will be required to present to the Mission Integrations and Operations Control Board and other vehicle specific program teams to coordinate cargo integration activities. Understanding the ISS Program Manifesting Processes and Tools (MIDAS Prime, Containment, iPAC) is desired.

IMPACT: This position is responsible for providing all Cargo related metrics to ensure compliance with CMC contractual requirements. Is responsible for maintaining Cargo Processes and defining efficiencies for standards of operations. This position will be responsible for providing WBS 4.1 and 4.2 roll up statuses to the Cargo Processing Manager and helping maintain the overall cargo budgets.

COMPLEXITY: Will be required to motivate a team in response to constant schedule pressure and changing customer needs. Will be requested to support the contracts overall objectives in providing mission and hardware integration support for the International Space Station Program despite a high level of customer changes. <?xml:namespace prefix = "o" ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

COMMUNICATION: Communicates with NASA OC2 Visiting Vehicle Office Manager, Cargo Integration Lead, and the Visiting Vehicle Leads as the main external contact. Coordinates with project managers, Cargo Mission Managers, and Program Management within the contract.

LEADERSHIP amp; TALENT MANAGEMENT: Manages a team consisting of experienced professionals in the areas of Project (Mission) Management, Analytical (Stowage and Cargo) Integration, and Physical (Technician) Integration. Leads, directs and reviews the work of team members who exercise latitude and independence in their assignments. Provides primary input to hiring, firing, promotion, performance and rewards decisions for direct reports.

KNOWLEDGE: Requires practical knowledge in leading and managing the execution of processes, projects and tactics within one area. Typically has advanced knowledge and skills within a specific technical or professional discipline with understanding of the impact of work on other areas of the organization.

EDUCATION amp; EXPERIENCE: Typically requires a BA/BS or equivalent experience and 5+ years or prior relevant experience or Masters with 3+ years of prior relevant experience. Generally has 2+ years of experience supervising or leading teams or projects.
