Candidate position is for a Sr. Process Engineer, Metrology Engineer, involved in the packaging of IR detectors for high reliability space, military and commercial applications. The successful candidate will train to become "process owner" of critical manufacturing processes in support factory of operations and will be responsible for proactively monitoring and maintaining the health of those processes and quickly responding as problems arise. The engineer will work with factory staff and support personnel to develop and implement new processes in support of emerging technologies. Rigorous engineering discipline will be required to set up, maintain current processes in support of existing contracts. The ability to troubleshoot problems, develop and test theories, generate and execute project plans is needed. A self-motivated, self-disciplined individual is the ideal candidate for this position. Ability to work with individuals and teams outside the department will be required. Additional tasks will include working in an engineering lab that produces materials in support of factory detector packaging processes. Candidate will be working in a cleanroom environment with ESD protocols in place. Exposure to industrial solvents and other chemicals is included. Specific tasks for this role will include:

  • Analyze measuring and test equipment (M&TE) to determine calibration requirements.
  • Analyze requirements for measurement standards and make recommendations.
  • Write and review calibration procedures.
  • Develop software to assist in calibration laboratory processes.
  • Ensure calibration processes are technically correct and compliant to ANSI/NCSL Z540.
  • Analyze and solve calibration problems using advanced mathematical and engineering knowledge.
  • Analyze and document measurement uncertainties.
  • Help develop “next-generation” metrology system capable of single-digit micron scale accuracy.
  • Perform engineering and statistical analyses of the equipment and historical data to determine appropriate calibration intervals.

Required Skills:

  • 6+ years of experience in Calibration/Metrology
  • Sound knowledge of basic engineering principles, theories, and concepts and good mechanical aptitude
  • Experience in at least four of the following areas of calibration: electrical, pressure, flow, force, temperature, humidity, vibration, torque, dimensional
  • A good working knowledge of electrical, physical, and dimensional standards used in calibration
  • Automated procedure writing with the Fluke MetCal or IK5000 automated calibration system
  • Thorough knowledge of calibration system requirements (ANSI/NCSL Z540, ISO 17025)
  • Excellent computer literacy (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Effective communication and technical writing skills, especially in documenting evaluation results
  • Knowledge of Statistical Process Control (SPC)and Design of Experiments (DOE/ANOVA)
  • Desire and ability to work as a team member is essential with demonstrated problem solving skills and attention to detail
  • Must be adaptable and willing to work varying assignments
  • Must be customer focused
  • Secret Security Clearance level or the ability to obtain
  • Working knowledge of commercial manufacturing processes
  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Ability to Obtain U.S. Security Clearance
  • U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position will need a U.S. Security Clearance within 1 year of start date

Desired Skills:

  • Experience with semiconductor processing equipment, methods, and processes including photolithography
  • Experience with a cleanroom work environment (Class 100)
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings or schematics
  • Visual Basic, G code, C+, or other computer programming experience

Required Education: BS in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical) or Materials Science

Desired Education: MS in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical) or Materials Science
