Job Description

Location: Sunnyvale California Security Clearance: Top Secret - Current

Raytheon Applied Signal Technology (RAST) has a need for a senior software engineer to integrate and test software applications in support of advanced high-capacity systems that process modern high-speed communications signals for the US intelligence community.

The highly qualified candidate is a self-starter, has excellent written and verbal communication skills, and works effectively and collaboratively in a team environment. She/he has a strong work ethic and is flexible and adaptable in order to respond to mission critical needs as they arise. The successful candidate will integrate and test complex systems with many interacting software components/applications. In addition, he/she will be assigned tasks in areas including system and network administration, software installation and configuration, and virtualization. As needed, the candidate is able and willing to travel to perform work at customer facilities. The candidate may have direct interaction with customers and must represent the company in a professional manner. The candidate may also generate briefings and must be able to present material clearly to team members, customers, and RAST management as necessary.

Examples of work:

  • Develop, sustain and manage configurations of infrastructure (e.g. servers, software applications and tools) for continuous integration, automated build and test execution
  • Design and implement software scripts to automate tests for build, regression, integration, stress, load, and/or performance testing
  • Install and configure software and systems for engineering development lab environments as well as for support of customer/field deployments
  • Configure and operate test equipment to generate input test signals and record output test data
  • Develop troubleshooting tools/utilities for integration, test, and deployment efforts
  • Design, implement and execute tests for high capacity signal processing systems and associated applications
  • Research and analyze telecommunications and network protocols and apply this knowledge in integration and testing of signal processing equipment
  • Develop and document test plans; develop and execute test procedures; document test results
  • Troubleshoot and debug defects discovered during integration and test phases, and in the field


Required Skills:

  • 6+ years’ technical experience in engineering development of Linux-based software intensive systems/products delivered to end customers
  • 4+ years’ technical experience in software development of object-oriented C/C++ Linux-based software
  • Practical experience in all phases of software development life cycle including estimation, requirements gathering, design and test driven development
  • Experience in low level-to-high level integration for software intensive systems/products
  • Experience in definition, design and implementation of integration approach and plans
  • Experience in definition, design and implementation of test approach, requirements, plans, and procedures
  • Experience with scripting using Perl, Python, Linux/Unix shell
  • Experience in software test automation design and development
  • Experience with software build automation, integration and test execution
  • Experience in test execution and generation of test results and reports
  • Demonstrated ability to clearly describe, in writing (e.g. in a bug report) and verbally, defects found during integration and test efforts as well as the steps and conditions that led to their discovery
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot issues during integration, test, and verification phases
  • Willing and able to travel 10%-15% as needed to customer facilities to install, configure, and deploy systems/products
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office tools
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively on multi-discipline teams
  • Active TS in the last 2 years, and SSBI within the last 5 years
  • U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position needs an active U.S. Security Clearance as of day one of employment.

  • network protocol analyzers (e.g. WireShark)
  • switches
  • signal/packet processing products
  • Practical experience with system configuration management
  • Working knowledge and understanding of telecommunications, networking, switching and signal processing fundamentals
  • Hands-on experience in engineering development of telecommunications, networking, switching and signal processing systems
  • Experience working with customers and end users


Required Education:
BS degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent, and a minimum of 6 years of prior relevant experience.

Desired Education:
MS degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent
