The Principal Employee Relations Partner provides support to employees, supervisors and managers by providing advice and guidance on issues concerning employment policy, procedure or practice. Conducts investigations and assists management in addressing performance concerns and the resolution of issues such as adverse actions and harassment complaints. Responsible for ensuring compliance with all state/federal leave laws in coordination with related company policies. Follows administrative processes, procedures and provides employee and management support/education to ensure adherence to established employment policies and practices. Major/Key Accountabilities • Create, document and maintain solid operational Employee Relations processes and practices to ensure compliance and consistency in the execution and administration of employment actions. • Investigate charges of discrimination and harassment filed with federal and state agencies or filed as an internal grievance; recommend resolutions to employee problems, issues and concerns; follow up with employees after resolution of employee complaints and concerns. • Advise/counsel executives and people managers on a wide variety of personnel issues to ensure fair employment practices and compliance with employment legislation and company policy. • Keep abreast of trends and changes in HR legislation and effect change or make recommendations for change to keep the company policies and practices in compliance with local, state and federal employment law; enforce legal and regulatory requirements impartially. • Visit Company locations, as needed, and consult with other subject matter experts in the Company as necessary to assist in resolving complaints within established service level agreements (SLAs). • Apply knowledge of ADA and reasonable accommodation process. Conduct interactive process with employees regarding requests for reasonable accommodation and identify appropriate legally compliant solutions. • Administer EthicsPoint Hotline tool; responsible for entering data in the Issue Repository and generating reports on Issues (trends, etc.); responsible for tracking and following up on matters being resolved. • Manage unemployment claims/appeals processing; assist internal customers with preparing for fact-finding interviews and appeal hearings; advise re: cost control; review quarterly claims activity reports for QA & cost control. • Mediate employee problems and provide structure for informal negotiations. • Responsible for creating monthly employee relations reports relative to case activity or other employee relations topics. • Ensure fair treatment to all of our employees at all levels through educating and training executives/people managers on proactive claims mitigation strategies. • Recognize the need for modifications to Human Resource policies and procedures, and propose appropriate changes, including writing and/or re-writing policies and procedures to facilitate approval of senior management. • Partner with managers to evaluate the merits and consequences of corrective action to ensure a highly competent workforce. • Participate in Merger and Acquisition processes, including due diligence and implementation. • Liaise and support the legal team in compiling documentation for employment related claims. • Participate in the creation and rollout of ER policy & program initiatives. • Collaborate with HR Services, BU clients, and HRBPs to ensure continuous improvement. • Participate in AAP development/submission and communication/education of utilization goals; monitor goal progress; audit for compliance and provide audit representation; including the tracking and documentation of outreach efforts and other requirements of the AAP plans; and prepare, submit, and maintain annual reports. • Prepare, review and submit, in conjunction with HRIS, annual EEO-1 and VETS-4212 reports and make recommendations for legal review and reporting. • Provide audit representation for internal and external audits, including DCAA and I-9. • Represent the employer at external agency administrative hearings. • Participate in Employee Orientation. • Perform additional duties and projects, as assigned. Qualifications • Requires Bachelor’s degree or equivalent. Experience • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in conducting internal investigations. • Minimum of 7 years’ related (Human Resources) experience including knowledge of federal, state and local EEO statutes, regulations and guidelines, and providing advice and counsel to rank-and-file employees to mid- and senior-level company executives. • Strong Microsoft Office software skills, PeopleSoft/Oracle experience a plus. Skills and Knowledge • Demonstrated experience interacting with employees at all levels and providing excellent customer service. • Strong analytical and problem solving skills. • Strong attention to detail, organizational and follow-through skills. • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including experience presenting information to small and large groups. • Ability to handle and manage multiple assignments and projects while effectively balancing schedules and ad hoc requests. • Superior Working knowledge of employment law, governmental agencies practices, and general employment policies/programs and the ability to communicate such in a concise way to employees.
