Job Description

Scientific and engineering services in multispectral and hyperspectral remote sensing, signal and image processing, and exploitation to include:

  • Conduct scientific research to understand and model the physical processes that create detectable signatures for targets and events of interest to national security customers
  • Characterize remotely detectable signatures and develop signature libraries for targets and events of interest to customers
  • Perform laboratory and field measurements with instruments to collect signature data and validate the models
  • Evaluate and analyze existing and conceptual remote sensing systems to determine their ability to collect the signatures
  • Evaluate methods for image and signal processing to detect, extract, and characterize the signatures in spectral remote sensing data
  • Develop and demonstrate prototype algorithms and tools to process and analyze the signatures in the data

The place of performance shall be at a government facility in Springfield, Virginia.

Occasional travel (approx. 4 times per year) may be required to locations in the U.S.

Labor skills requirements:

  • TS/SCI clearance, active CI polygraph
  • Bachelor’s degree in technical field such as physics, electrical engineering, aerospace engineering, image science, computer science, or related field
  • 3 years of experience in optical remote sensing, preferably with emphasis in spectral data collection and exploitation
  • Through understanding of optical image chain physics and phenomenology
  • Experience with physics-based modeling and simulation
  • Ability to develop prototype signal and image processing code in Matlab, Python, IDL, or C++
  • Ability to work independently or in a small multidisciplinary team toward an objective with minimal external direction
  • Written and oral communications skills to interface with and brief program sponsors, technical staff, and external partners on technical plans and progress
  • Skilled in independently balancing a fair work load, managing priorities, maintaining a commitment to quality standards, overcoming obstacles, and achieving results
  • Organizational skills to work with a variety of people in different disciplines, working from multiple locations on tasks involving rapidly changing information
