Job Title: Principal Mechanical Engineer / Senior Principal Mechanical Engineer
Raytheon Company’s Integrated Defense Systems (IDS) Mechanical Engineering Directorate (MED) leads in mechanical hardware design, development and production of radar, sonar, torpedo and combat system equipment. The Mechanical Engineering Directorate uses state-of-the-art tools, processes, technology, and Raytheon Six Sigma principles.MED’s capabilities encompass a broadrange of technical disciplines which include engineering, manufacturing, technical services, materials, processes,analysis, test and documentation.
As part of the Mechanical Engineering Directorate, the Antenna Systems Department provides conceptual development, design, documentation, prototyping, production and support for a wide range of antenna and radar products.The department supports many directorate activities, but is primarily focused on development of phased-array antenna products, including transmit/receive modules, pedestals and radomes.Engineers use advanced tools such as PTC Creo, ANSYS and FloTHERM to design and analyze these new products and release documentation to production.
The Antenna Systems Department is seeking motivated and driven Senior Mechanical Engineers with experience in hardware design and analysis.The position will primarily support design, development, and production focused around phased array antennas and supporting structures, power, and cooling sub-systems.
Responsibilities can include, but are not limited to:
Key expectations for this position include technical problem solving, along with technical leadership in the development of new hardware.Senior engineers will be required to make sound technical decisions, provide supervision and leadership to junior engineers and manage to cost and schedule requirements of assigned tasks.This position will require interfacing with other mechanical engineers, designers, and structural / thermal analysts, as well as engineers from other disciplines, along with line and program management and Customers.
U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position will need a U.S. Security Clearance within 1 year of start date.
This position can be a G10 or an G11 based on the candidate’s qualifications and experience as they relate to the skills, experience and responsibilities required for the position.
·8+ years mechanical engineering design experience in at least one or a combination of the following areas:
- Electro-mechanical packaging of multi-function multi-technology electronic assembles
- Active RF Modules
- Multi-material/multi-layer printed wiring boards and circuit card assemblies
- High density power conversion and distribution sub-systems
- Large precision machined structures
- Medium to large scale radomes
- Pedestals, mechanisms and associated drive and control systems
·Ability to creatively apply mechanical engineering knowledge to efficiently and creatively solve complex design problems, and make sound and rationale data driven technical decisions
·Experience with radar systems and electronic packaging, including antenna or pedestal design
·Working knowledge of military and commercial design, materials, and process specifications
·Efficient and disciplined process execution behaviors coupled with agility of thought and knowledge of how to appropriately tailor processes to fit the task
·Strong presentation and technical writing skills
·Experience with technical and cost proposal development
·Experience leading other engineers within an integrated product team environment
·Experience successfully establishing, and managing, cost and schedule requirements for assigned tasks
·Ability to multi-task and successfully manage multiple activities at any given time
·Ability to interact well with other team members across various disciplines, including other engineering disciplines, manufacturing, supply chain, and program management
·Ability to identify and communicate technical issues that may impact cost, schedule, or other aspects of product design
·Strong analytical design and drawing skills including geometric tolerancing and dimensioning and associated tolerance analysis
·Demonstrated hands-on mechanical aptitude with the ability to work across disciplines
·Work performed without appreciable direction and exercises considerable latitude in determining technical objectives of assignment
·Experience in technical risk management
·Understanding of the product development lifecycle models and program lifecycle modes
·Qualified Raytheon Six Sigma Specialist or equivalent
·Master's degree preferred
