Communications Director (Raytheon UK)

Location – Harlow (with UK and International travel as required) - may consider London as base location for the right candidate

Raytheon UK is a prime defence, aerospace and Cyber security provider and delivers innovative solutions to customers in the UK and around the world. The Communications Director reports to the Chief Executive of Raytheon UK and supports members of the Raytheon UK Leadership Team in providing an extensive communications strategy to meet the diverse business needs.

As a US subsidiary the Communications Director (Raytheon UK) will also report to the RMS Communications Vice President and is an integral part in the collaboration with the wider corporate Communications leadership team and the Communications staff of other Raytheon businesses.

Main duties:
  • Build Raytheon UKs industry leadership position and enhance its commercial & government identity through strategic communications
  • Enhance awareness and reputation of Raytheon’s growing U.K. business and brand
  • Build and enhance existing relationships with customers, government leaders and their influencers, media organisations, employees, suppliers and other key stakeholders
  • Lead all internal & external communications for Raytheon UK with an emphasis on building, deploying and measuring the effectiveness of digital content and channels
  • Develop effective advocacy partners within the U.K. and internationally to support the UK and global growth
  • Shape and execute effective executive communications to achieve business goals through the Chief Executive and other senior leadership as required.
  • Serve as the senior communications counsellor to the Raytheon UK Chief Executive and Leadership Team
  • Collaborate with Business Development, Government relations, and the Business Leads to build appropriate UK & international communications strategies to increase the Raytheon UK brand identity with relevant Government bodies and officials
  • Develop and manage a customer-focused, integrated approach to communications, increasing awareness among employees and other key stakeholders of Raytheon UKs strategies and goals
  • Lead & motivate a dedicated Raytheon UK communications team to ensure the UK internal & external communications strategy is executed, supporting the business needs and ensuring alignment to the Corporate communication strategy.
  • Support the development of a world-class communications team for Raytheon UK harbouring strong digital communications competencies in alignment with Raytheon’s proven, award-winning model
  • Serve as an active member of the corporate International Communications and RMS Communications teams in the development and implementation of enterprise-wide strategies, programmes and practices
  • Support the growth and continued success of the business through the design, development and execution of communication strategies and programs in alignment with business strategies
  • Develop and implement effective marketing communications programmes, coordinating with the customer and with business development/strategy functions
  • Coordinate advocacy initiatives and media relations, both outreach and response, targeting customers and in coordination with corporate Communications and Raytheon businesses
  • Lead the branding and identity programme for Raytheon UK, consistent with standards throughout the business

Technical Skillsand Personal Attributes
  • Ability to serve as an effective member of a leadership team, displaying strong business acumen, strategic counselling abilities, and executive presentation and briefing skills
  • Track record in the developing and executing integrated, digital communications programmes supported by a facts-and-data approach to key stakeholder engagement
  • Able support leaders in presentations and public speaking at high profile events
  • Collaborative abilities to work effectively across a global, matrix company and develop support for the organisation’s communications priorities
  • Ability to work effectively with all levels of staff and customers
  • Able to prepare and support leaders effectively in crisis communication if required
  • Experienced with Digital communications across all available external and internal channels, including video and graphics concepting
  • Executive communications including leadership address materials
  • Relevant Advertising, Media and Government relations experience

Requirements & Competencies

You will be a high performance communications professional with exemplary capabilities in contemporary, digital communications practices, and a strategic focus bolstered by strong business acumen and working within a Senior Leadership team.

You will requires in-depth knowledge of audience and topical data analysis, key influencer targeting, digital content creation, digital channel strategies, social media activation, public affairs, issues and crisis management, community relations, public relations including earned media strategies and practices, organisational communications including employee and executive messaging, branding and marketing communications, and special events.

You will have strong leadership skills with highly evolved teamwork and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and persuade various stakeholders.

  • Creative and strategic abilities in the development and implementation of successful, measurable communications programmes
  • Ability to communicate and influence through digital channels within all levels of the organisation and with external stakeholders
  • Superior ability to work effectively in business and cross-company teams
  • A high level of energy, commitment, and passion for results
  • Ability to work within urgent deadlines and experience in juggling multiple high priority tasks

Education and Experience
  • Ideally educated to Degree level in Communication, English, Journalism, Liberal Arts, or similar
  • Proven track record at a senior level in communications with relevant public and/or government relations experience
  • Proven leadership skills and budgetary control experience
Ideally with proven defence, aerospace, cyber security or relevant industry or corporate experience
