Job Description

Location: El Segundo California Security Clearance: TS/SCI - Current Job Description:

The Responsive Space Systems Department is seeking cleared (in scope SSBI preferred) Space Mission Systems Engineers who bring space mission system leadership, engineering, capture, and/or proposal experience to a growth oriented organization. Prior experience in satellite operations and/or orbital analysis is desired, yet not required. This role will leverage your knowledge of all elements of the space mission design process including initial concept development, system-level trades, requirements definition, mission geometry, orbit selection, mission timeline, performance assessment, mission utility, and mission level cost optimization. The job responsibilities may include constellation and sensor MBSE. Knowledge of Space, Ground, Programmatics, and Launch segment inter-relationships to support the optimization of a mission baseline is desired.

The candidate must have the ability to manage and evaluate technical solutions for the development of complex space missions based on customer requirements. The work performed will help inform the design and development of EO/IR payloads for sensing missions in the military, civil, and commercial domains. One aspect of the position will be astrodynamics assessments of the mission of interest to include coordinate systems definition, orbital maneuvers/transfers, orbit determination, Kalman filtering, perturbation techniques, atmospheric models, and analysis of specialized orbits. Other potential responsibilities include supporting the design and assessment of individual elements of a space mission, including spacecraft bus subsystem design, launch system selection, ground segment, user segment, mission operations, and cost modeling.

The candidate should be capable of leading efforts that use tools such as STK, HPOP, Matlab, C++, or similar that create analytical products and perform model generation for data analysis and performance prediction. Possible tasks include defining day in the life (DITL) CONOPS for space mission systems. This position will interface with (or serve in the role of) Capture Manager, Proposal Manager, Lead Systems Engineer and other stake holders to ensure program objectives are achieved. Successful candidates should expect to be immersed in a fast-paced, team-based, and challenging technical environment where an individual with talent and initiative can stand out and thrive.
